Organizational management in the face of sustainability and digital transformation narratives
Synopsis
The following chapter aims to analyze digital transformation and sustainability, interesting new challenges for management and organizations. This research describes how today's organizations must adapt more quickly to technological change and diversified business models, thereby meeting environmental, social, and governance standards, whether in the public, military, or corporate spheres. To conduct this study, a documentary analysis of the literature was conducted, examining technical reports and articles to identify current trends and the most significant impacts of sustainability and digital transformation for data collection. This means that organizational management must effectively respond to the demand for sustainability and digital transformation in a changing world. This paper seeks to answer this question: comparing research and success factors for adapting to these transformations. For the purpose of this study, due diligence was conducted on academic resources from international institutions (e.g., research articles, reports, and news) on case studies and lessons learned from innovations created by these institutions (e.g., in sustainability and digitalization). The results reveal how improved digitalization can facilitate efficient operations, informed decision-making, and resource optimization. On the other hand, it also poses challenges, such as the digital divide and continuous learning. From a sustainability perspective, we have seen that organizations with circular economy principles and socially conscious practices are much more competitive (and therefore more resilient). Therefore, we conclude that combining digital transformation and the introduction of sustainable operations within organizational management is vital for companies.
